Robert Carpenter

Mr. Carpenter is a founding partner of the firm. He graduated with his undergraduate degree in Marketing (minor in Religion) from the University of Florida, in Gainesville, Florida. Mr. Carpenter earned his JD degree from DePaul University in Chicago. He maintains active practices in immigration and nationality law, and plaintiff’s personal injury litigation. Mr. Carpenter represents individuals and businesses before the Department of Homeland Security and the Departments of Labor and State, often in pursuit of temporary or permanent visas. He has extensive experience with all varieties of non-immigrant visas, including H-1B1 (specialty or professional worker visas), L-1 (intracompany transferees), E (treaty-traders), F (students), J (exchange programs) and TN (NAFTA) visas. His practice includes representing professional athletes (Major League Baseball and National Hockey League) in acquiring P visas and permanent residency. He has also acquired P visas for professional entertainers, including well-known dancers and ice-skaters. He has successfully acquired lawful permanent residency for nationals of more than 110 countries, through work-based applications, family-based petitions, the diversity lottery visa program and asylum applications. He also maintains a removal and deportation defense practice, focusing on asylum, cancellation of removal and adjustment of status applications in front of the Executive Office of Immigration Review and the Board of Immigration Appeals. Mr. Carpenter is an active federal court litigator against the same government agencies. The firm has prevailed on many cases in federal court in recent months on cases involving undue delays and unfair applications of the law by the government. He is a member of the Trial Bar for the Northern District of Illinois Federal District Court and of the Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Mr. Carpenter is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyer’s Association, where he has spoken to the Greater Chicago Chapter on issues surrounding suits against the INS. He speaks frequently to a wide range of groups, from the Chicago Economic Development Council, to the Midwest Regional Technical Recruiter’s Association, as well as to hospitals, government bodies and universities. He has been selected as a Leading Illinois Attorney for Immigration and Personal Law by his peers, a distinction earned by less than 4% of attorneys in Illinois. He is proud of the pro bono work he does representing asylees through the Midwest Immigrant and Human Rights Center. In his free time, Mr. Carpenter enjoys any outdoor activity, especially mountain hiking, kayaking, but he'll settle for any activity that he can enjoy with his family.
